the fourth

did you have a good fourth of july?
i hope so, because ours was mediocre, at best.

the fourth of july has always been one of my very favorite holidays, right up there with valentine's day.
to me, the fourth of july means:  breakfast at the park, riverdale city parade, old glory days at the park, swimming and cookout with family at my parents' house, and watching/doing fireworks at night.

this fourth of july contained zero of those activities mentioned.  we didn't plan anything because we thought russ was going to have to work, but he didn't.  He did, however, have to study for his Series 7 test for work.  Bleh.  also, our bffs left us to visit family for the weekend so we didn't plan anything with them either.  we were supposed to have a cookout/pool party with our friends from the ward but they were out of town for the weekend and due to a medical emergency of the people they were with they weren't able to make it back to Dallas in time for the party.

so, instead of partying, i spent the morning shopping for a dress to wear to my brother's upcoming wedding.  and i didn't find a thing.

we picked up our bffs from the airport later in the day, and since Russ demanded that we eat either hot dogs or hamburgers to "celebrate" the fourth of july, we went to the very newly opened in-n-out burger for a classic double-double, animal style.  russ swears that he will be going to in-n-out once a week now that it is open.  a heart-attack is a fine way to die, i guess.

mary and i celebrated our love of america by watching the movie "Twilight" (she is a recent convert to the Twilight series) while the boys (and anna) played video games.  lame-o, I know, but we were tired from sitting around doing NOTHING all day.  It was a disappointing fourth of july for us, but i cross my heart that next year i will either be in Utah celebrating correctly, or i will be planning an all-out bash (just check out my fourth of july board on pinterest to see how i have already started said plans).

despite our pathetic celebration atttempt, we really do love this country, our freedom, and of course, appropriate holiday dress:
