new bike, old bike

Russ has been trying to sell his motorcycle all summer due to the fact that it is an unnecessary expense, especially now that we actually pay our own bills and are poorer than ever. Saturday we found a buyer who agreed to buy the bike on Monday. In a matter of minutes after speaking with him Russ had gone online and found a cheaper, 20 year older version of his bike, called the owner and agreed to buy it on Monday after selling his current bike. "But it was such a good deal!!!" His reasoning doesn't sound much unlike the reasoning that I so often get ridiculed for using when making purchases. So as of today we are the proud new owners of a 1984 Honda Shadow, which is definitely a huge downgrade from what we had before...but you can't beat $75 (a year) insurance. The bike does have a few quirks...the previous owner ripped out some part of the muffler which now makes the bike louder than if it had custom pipes. Also, riders must take caution not to burn their legs on the hot pipes on either side of the foot-rests. I've already had a few close encounters. (real) pictures coming soon...
